Tunein is a magazine-style TV programme guide for your local media server. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

What data we collect

Data you provide

Tunein does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information. No names, email addresses, or passwords are collected by us.

Data stored on your device

Tunein stores the following information locally on your device only, using your browser or app's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us:

  • XMLTV feed URLs and credentials — the addresses of your local media servers, and any authentication tokens or passwords you enter to access them
  • Favourite channels and programmes — channels and shows you have saved
  • App preferences — settings and configuration choices

You can clear this data at any time by clearing the app's local storage or uninstalling the app.

Data collected automatically

IP geolocation (weather feature) To display local weather information, the app uses your device's approximate location, determined by your IP address, via the following third-party services:

  • ipapi.co — used to determine your approximate city and coordinates from your IP address. Their privacy policy is available at ipapi.co/privacy.
  • Open-Meteo — used to fetch weather forecast data. Open-Meteo does not collect personal data. Their privacy policy is available at open-meteo.com/en/terms.

Advertising (Free version only) The free version of Tunein displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect the following data to serve and personalise ads:

  • Device identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID)
  • IP address
  • Approximate location
  • App usage information
  • Diagnostic data

This data is collected and processed by Google under their own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of personalised advertising in your device settings under Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID.

The Pro version of Tunein contains no advertising and AdMob is not active.

Third-party trivia and joke content

The app fetches content from the following third-party APIs:

  • Open Trivia Database (opentdb.com) — used to display film and TV trivia. No personal data is sent.
  • icanhazdadjoke.com — used to display a daily joke. No personal data is sent.

How we use your data

We do not collect, store, or process your personal data on our servers. All data listed above is either:

  • Stored locally on your device, or
  • Collected by third-party services (AdMob, ipapi.co) under their own policies

We do not sell, share, or trade any user data.

Children's privacy

Tunein is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us at privacy@tuneinmagazine.xyz.

Data retention

Data stored locally on your device (feed URLs, favourites, preferences) is retained until you clear it or uninstall the app. We have no access to this data and cannot delete it on your behalf.

Your rights

As a US-based user you have the right to:

  • Know what data is collected about you
  • Request deletion of your data (for locally stored data, this is done by clearing app storage or uninstalling)
  • Opt out of personalised advertising via your device settings

Security

XMLTV feed credentials you enter are stored locally on your device only and are never transmitted to our servers. We recommend using your device's screen lock and keeping your operating system up to date.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at tuneinmagazine.xyz/privacy with an updated date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
